october 2024 favourites

it's been a weird one this month. i don't know if i've just been super busy or what but i just haven't really been the music man i ought to be. regardless, here's some music i enjoyed in october 2024

songs

  1. I remember, I remember by Francesca Wexler

is a song i discovered on instagram yet again.. but its very good, i enjoy it a lot. i don't listen to thaaat much hip-hop/rap, although i do think that igor is a masterpiece, but there's something about this one that scratched my brain and made me have it on repeat a lot this month. lyrically its a great story about religion and grappling with sexuality in the face of religion; i think my favourite lyrics are "i loved you in a way i couldn't come to terms with / it felt like something since a girl, that i was cursed with / i was burnin in a private hell / see, i tried to hide it but my eyes still tell". musically its also great i just really like the way it feels and flows its good
  2. if a mouse could sing... by spellcasting

is a silly little electronic ditty, i think is a good description. its uptempo and squeaky, a fun repetitive melody and just very whimsical synthesisers? its short and sweet, i don't have loads to say about it but it is fun!! also the cover art is real neat
  3. A Song Dedicated to the Memory of Stormy the Rabbit (Live) by ajj

very specifically the live version!! i've known the album version for ages but the live version came on shuffle at some point and no fucking way thats a saxophone!! honestly thats my analysis. saxophone fucks. the solo in the middle?? holy shit. the ending????? im dead theyve killed me. i do really enjoy the studio version but man is this live version so good. the lyrics are great too, shout out to "for four fortnights / i have fled from my fortress / foraging forests five footsteps in length / fortitude found within 40oz bottles / flowing like flies from your face" now THATS how you do alliteration
  4. Mum Does the Washing by Joshua Idehen

a very random one; it was a radio find. the lyrics are the precipise of this one (although the musicality is also very fun), as they're a series of ideologies and constructs described through the analogy of, your mum doing the washing. its a strange premise maybe but it works well, it's silly and entertaining while also making good points!! although i think my favourite is the last one; "surrealism: the washing does your mum"
  5. Elsa's Song by The Amazing Devil

was a fairly random find (i was listening to a playlist and it was there), but i'd heard good things about TAD so i focused in on it and yeah, good song!! i like the harmonies and countermelodies or whatnot especially
